Photochrom Prints of Rome

Via Kottke.org, these photos of Rome almost look like they're from another world.

Not much has changed around the Spanish Steps, St Peter's Square at the Vatican or with the actual Colosseum but what struck me was the total absence of people.

We visited Rome in October 2023 and it was busy. The quietest place we found ourselves was the Rome Zoo which we only visited because we had time to kill. Otherwise, every location worth visiting required queueing.

I'd love the opportunity to see Rome this quiet during the day.
