Hey, World!

The name riffs on the familiar "hello, world!" introduction to programming languages.

I really like the work they're doing over at Basecamp and I'm really interested in working on a project that could make use of the HTML/JS framework they introduced called Hotwire.

I Miss My Bar

What a great website. I toggled one setting and didn't think it worked very well but toggle a few together and it really gives you a feel for how it used to be to go to a bar. Even pre-pandemic, it's not something I got to do regularly but something I want to do more of once it's safe.

This year will be huge for electric cars. Here's why.

An interesting video that touches on Tesla's Cybertruck and Rivian among many other EVs.

'Spy pixels in emails have become endemic'

I'm conflicted about this, I can fully understand why tracking pixels exist. I've been thinking about how best to track how many views my newsletter and RSS feeds get and using a pixel is the most obvious answer as part of my growing interest in analytics.

I am not interested at all as to when or how many times an individual interacts with a particular item, only the raw numbers. But I can appreciate how sceptical anyone would be if they knew it was there. They can only see their side of the pixel, not what I, or anyone else, might be doing on the other side.

Cygnus Mosaic 2010-2020

It took a decade to put this photo together:

Composed over a decade with 400 hours of image data, the broad mosaic spans an impressive 28x18 degrees across the sky.

Audi E-Tron GT

Audi make some great looking cars but this is the best I've seen in a while from them.

Facebook says it will crack down on COVID vaccine misinformation

Saying that Facebook are late with this change of policy would be too kind to them.

Why it matters: It's a partial reversal from Facebook's previous position on vaccine misinformation. In September, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company wouldn't target anti-vaccination posts the same way it has aggressively cracked down on COVID misinformation.

It's great to see them reverse their policy on vaccine misinformation, but much like the situation with Trump and the last US election, we shouldn't be in this position.

If you have any worries or doubts about the effectiveness of vaccines, go and watch Penn & Teller's video on vaccinations. If you're vaccinated you're not only protecting yourself but everyone around you too.

Live Music Jukebox

More fun from The Pudding. This jukebox tool allows you to compare album versions versus live versions and charts how different they are.
