Apple's release cycle is relentless

Week 470 was posted by Charanjit Chana on 2026-10-28.

Not only did we get the iPhone 18 Pro announcement last month, but the all-new iPhone Duo.

Since then we've had updates to the Mac, MacBook Pro and iPad mini lineups.

There's the new HomeView, Homepod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K.

And now we have the new Apple MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display.

All of the above inside two months, is some going. With OS updates to match.

But I only want to talk about two things here, the iPhone Duo and the touchscreen PROLED MacBook Pros.

The reality of the iPhone Duo

I belatedly got my hands on one, in an Apple Store. It's the best modern foldable I've ever used. The best foldable remains my Nokia 6600 Fold, but let's stick to the Duo.

The one I held had obviously been opened many times, but it sat comfortably in any pose without issue. The nano-texture cover does a fantastic job of hiding the crease. At most angles. I could not personally stop noticing the tiny circle that does not have the nano-texture for the under-display camera. In contrast, that area is extremely reflective. Maybe something you don't notice after a bit of usage?

The iPhone Duo is impressive, but it's fat and squat and not for me.

MacBook Pro with a Touchscreen PROLED XDR Display

As hand-me-downs go, the Touch Bar MacBook Pro my son uses for homework is one he loves to touch. His biggest gripe (other than battery life), is that the logo does not illuminate like my late-2013 MacBook Pro does.

Love to see that's back and the Dynamic Island is a better solution than the notch, although I'd need to see it in person to be sure. The colours sound like they'll be fantastic but I have no complaints about the displays on either of the (personal) 14" MacBook Pro or (work) 13" MacBook Air that I use daily.

The touch interface is interesting, I don't need or want one. Even the display isn't bringing much envy, but it does look like a fantastic machine and I have one eye on the battery life which is almost unbelievable.
