Racist attacks on Black England players spark widespread backlash

I sometimes find it hard to support the England national team, but I admire them for the morals and their actions over the past few weeks and months.

In contrast, the leaders of the United Kingdom, continue to be a complete embarrassment to us all.

the Infinite Ugly Scroll

Nick Here:

The galling thing is that this strategy works — not for users, of course, but on an entirely commercial level it works.

I love working with and on the web, but the web is broken.Commercially, it's thriving and people are making a lot of money. It does feel like a lot of that is done immorally at the moment. Facebook even being allowed to buy WhatsApp and Instagram feels like an insane move. Google and YouTube's relationship doesn't feel so bad but the sheer volume of ads right now is slowly turning my the other way.

Legend EL1

Inspired by the Audi Quattro, but it reminds of the Aston Martin Vantage from the 1970s and 80s.

Google Plus launched ten years ago this week

Only 10 years ago, it feels like a lot longer has passed in between.

It's predecessor (of sorts), Google Wave had some unbelievable features for it's time. Real time collaboration for one, but Google Plus had little to set it apart from the competition. Maybe it's integrations with Google Photos and the ability to create tighter groups, or Circles?

The only thing I miss about Google Plus is the +1 extension for Chrome. Your 'vote' wasn't tied to a specific social media post, but to the URI.

And now I have an idea for another side project...

Introducing Windows 11

Nice upgrade, but hopefully there's some substance to the style changes. Being able to snap your apps into predefined spaces is great. MacOS itself could really do with being a lot smarter with how it handles app windows.

Sony MiniDisc: The (not) forgotten audio format that (never) failed

A trip down memory lane for me as a fan of the MiniDisc format. Pre-recorded media was expensive from what I remember. At least 50% more compared to CDs, which was a shame. It must have been 20 years now since I used one so I had no idea that it had all evolved so much with 4x long play discs.

The format would have had more time in my life had I found a well priced head unit for my car. As it was, MP3 CDs was the way I ended up going.
