The Deep Sea

Neal Agarwal, responsible for the Every Second project, has put together a great single-page website that takes you to the greatest depths of the oceans.

Amazon, Apple, Google and the Zigbee Alliance to develop connectivity standard

The smart home journey has been tough, trying to bring everything together through HomeKit has reduced the number of options dramatically. Lights are generally not a problem, but sensors, switches and plugs have been really tough to find.

MacRumors with some more info on CHIP. This is actually quite exciting, if products like a Nest thermostat become compatible across ecosystems.

The Blind Smartphone Camera Test 2019

I really like these blind tests, but looking at the process, too much variation is possible. It wouldn't take much to make the photos truly comparible. Austin Mann and iPhonedo have created rigs for comparison tests in the past which are pretty good.

I love them all, but this was my favourite. I really should start collecting pins. Been a while since I bought one.

Failed Serie A anti-racism campaign

I love Italian football, I have a lot of fond memories from my youth, but it's a parody of competition at the moment.

Glad to see Roma and Milan calling them out but it's 2019, I have no idea why this needs explaining to anyone.

UK telecoms regulator plans to ban sale of locked mobile phones

Genuinely shocked that this is still a thing in the UK, I thought phones had been unlocked for years now but apparently that's not the case. I may be insulated from this, as over the past 6 years I've been an iPhone user and bought them all directly from Apple who sell them unlocked in the UK.

Prior to that, my Android phone was bought from the network it was on and locked to. Before going with Android, I had a Nokia flip phone which came unlocked but that was from a store that offered it directly from the manufacturer and bundled it with a deal from a network.

Given the EU's track record on making usage across the continent cheaper for consumers, I'm surprised this isn't something they'd sorted out already.

The relative rotations of the planets

I saw this represented as a globe earlier in the week on Reddit but this visualisation is far more interesting.

Will Poulter on social media

A very interesting conversation. From my perspective, there are two easy things that you can do two things to make your social media feeds less frustrating: follow fewer people and mute accounts.
