Mr Bingo's Hate Mail Project

Week 28 was posted by Charanjit Chana on 2018-05-07.

Geoff Hand is a former commercial illustrator of 15 years who packed it all in and deleted his portfolio! He now makes a living through selling things in his online store or public speaking. His former clients range from the likes of The New York Times, The Guardian, The New Yorker and Channel 4. In his own words:

He decided around this period to never work for clients ever again and focus on being some sort of artist which he’s done ever since.

Not entirely SFW, Hand's art is interesting and sometimes... erm, abrupt. Exhibits 1 & 2.

It was through a feature on his book, Mr Bingo's Hate Mail Project, that I first became aware of his work. Not the usual type of thing I would seek out but it really reminded me of 27B/6 in that some of the work was so funny in the way it's unnecessarily rude. The project started when Hand sent a postcard with an offensive message to the first person to respond on social media. Safe to say that it spiralled into a beast of it's own that culminated in a 340 book of literal hate mail.
